Night Calls #WWUC @NWCreativeUnion

Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on that sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Dylan Thomas

Wednesday Wake-Up Features @GothicGlass

Today, I'd love to share with you a wonderful Nova Scotia artist I discovered on twitter.  Angie Chase began her Gothic Glass creations while residing on Canada's West Coast.  Here, she began building a following through the online ether that would follow her back home.  While many may think that Gothic Glass refers to subculture, the term is actually used in reference to that particular period in stained glass architectural history. It speaks of the pointed arches, the ribbed vaults and flying buttresses, but perhaps, most notably, the rose window.

I have purchased Angie's works, and was delighted by the quality, not to mention the affordability of her pieces.  Today, I'm going to share some of my favorite pieces with you, (with Angie's permission, of course) and would love to see how this amazing art form get's your own creative juices flowing.  You'll also find links to her work included for sharing with your response.  Let's spread the good news of this wonderful artisan!

This is how we play...

  • Spend some time with Angie's wonderful pieces. Feel free to visit her pages and pick your favorites. Share the piece with appropriate links on your blog.
  • Let your creative take over. Are you compelled to pick up a pen? Grab a paint brush? Bang your drum? No matter how you choose to respond, if you can post it to your blog, you can share it with NWCU
  • Once your post is complete, visit our Mr.Linky button below.  Here you will be asked to submit your name, as well as the address of the post you're sharing. Once you do this, you're in!
  • Our purpose is to spread the good work of artists and creatives the world over. Visit those who have decided to play along, comment, tweet, and share their responses with your peers.  Let's help each other build our fan bases, grow our following, and share our work.  You never know where the next great connection will be found!
  • You have till Sunday morning, 8amEST to post your response. Throughout the prompt, we will be tallying the +1's on the post. The longer you have to share, the better chance you have of taking home our Creative Designate badge!
And perhaps most of all, a huge thank you has to go out to Angie for letting me share her wonderful work with you! Please don't forget to swing by and show your gratitude....

Wednesday Wake Up ~ 27.06.12

Show Us Your Butterflies!
Last week when I put the call out for ideas for this weeks Wake Up...the voice of a constant supporter came through loud and clear. Steve Piper (thumbs up big time!) brought forth how often we as writers and creators look to certain items for constant inspiration.  An example he used that I LOVED was the moon.  Right now, if I asked you to run and grab a piece of your work inspired by the moon, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have to wait too long.

The same can be said for butterflies...look at Susie Clevenger  our own Butterfly Poet...these light-filled, flying canvasses have been inspiration for so many, and this week...we'd like to see how they've inspire you!

There are some images below to help prompt your pen...but the sky's the limit and we're granting you butterfly wings.

Enjoy this beautiful slideshow compiled by our own Roger Allen Baut over at Zenfolio where he incorporates not only butterflies...but a real sense of nature and what these beauties represent. Amongst the Leaves

Wednesday Wake Up with @NWCreativeUnion

It's that time of the week when days seem to last forever...and it's time for us all to wake up.  This week I am sharing with you, a very disturbing movie trailer from the film Zeitgeist.  This movie woke me up in 2007 when watching a full movie on YouTube seemed complete ridiculousness. I watched this one, held riveted to the tiny screen on my tiny laptop.  If you are weak stomached, you may want to skip this one.  I'm not asking you to change your beliefs, I'm not even asking you to watch the film, but I am asking you to share your thoughts on this just over four minute clip.  Imagine it being placed in a time capsule and stumbling upon it 100 years from now?  For me...it is one of the most realistic impressions of the world we're living in, and I am scared to death.

Tell me its not time to wake up...to try to change this...there has to be a way...one world...one love.
Here's how to play along:

  • Post your response to the above clip to your blog. Write a poem, paint a picture, share an opinion.
  • Copy the link address for that particular post and click on the Mr. Linky button
  • Paste your post address, enter you name and click submit...you're in!
  • Visit others who have shared their thoughts with us. Share them with your followers, engage in conversation. Show them the love and respect that we need on a GLOBAL level.  Let's lead by example.
  • You have till Sunday at 8am EST to post your response.  The post that receives the most +1's will be crowned with a lovely badge to show off to the world!
  • That's all there is to it! Let's wake up, shall we :)

Wednesday Wake Up Call 29.05.12

I have a page on my blog that's called Running with Crayons.  The pictures I doodle are my own, and they are certainly beyond the realm of what we actually see. To some, they are crap, to others, they are art, to me they are therapy.

I've always been a little odd by most folk's definition, and I am admitting here today, I care WAY TOO MUCH about what people think to the point I tend to censor my words (harder to do with crayons!) I have let this flaw condition me, my work, my life and my passion.  I remember well the little boy who I was crushing on so many years ago.  I showed him my drawings, and he laughed....I believe at the time the problem was the blue horse.  It would be YEARS before I once again found the joy in my random doodles, and when I started sharing them on my blog and some folks actually liked them...the validation finally silenced the laughter I had held in my mind for all those years. That's what I want you to do today.  Silence your critics.  Those folks who have no idea of the soul you bleed into your work.  Stand up and tackle them face on.  Write them a letter, draw them a picture, be the creator you were born to be.  No limits, no censors.  Stand up for yourself, your work, and your way.

Today, the issue folks take with my work is money.  How can I invest so much time for so little return.  This is the mentality we are all fighting.  These people have no clue as to the rewards that come with creating because you HAVE TO. The call, the visions, the urge is the only proof I need that there is indeed a creator greater than all of us...and I want to honor the calling in my heart by all means necessary.  I have ignored it for far too long.  Join us today, as we do what we were born to do. Silence the haters, the seed of doubt they have tended to so vigilantly in your heart, and let YOU shine.(The real one!) Here's how:
  • Post your work to your blog. Words, pictures, images...there is no criteria. Respond as your heart tells you, then copy the link address for your post.
  • Paste your link into our Mr. Linky below along with your name.  Just that simple.
  • Visit and engage others who have chosen to answer our call. The goal is simple...a community built around the mutual sharing and caring of those involved. Comment, chat, share and tweet.  The world needs folks like us now more than ever, and it's high time we all woke up and acknowledged that fact.
  • You have until 8amEST Sunday morning to get your piece posted. No rush, no pressure...let it flow.
  • On Monday, the entry that received the most +1's will be awarded our creator of the week.
Here's a couple of pieces of my crayon and marker 'art'...no blue horses...but a whole lot of fun ;)

Now it's YOUR turn! Let's get creative and show the haters how we roll! Mr. Linky awaits!

Wednesday Wake~Up Call 16.05.12

~Oceans of Creativity~

Wouldn't it be fantastic if we were all waking up to the sound of waves crashing against the shore, and the glare of the morning sun sparkling on the water.  I've yet to meet a person that is NOT inspired by a moment at the beach, a picnic on a bluff overlooking the ocean, or a day spent sailing.  Today, let's pretend we are waking to the sound of waves.  Let's find that moment that makes us realize while we are physically minute in the grand scheme of things, our spirits are able to surf the crest of those waves to the heart of inspiration.

Today, I want to go all multi-media.  Listen to the sound of the waves, contemplate the photo's, or simply ponder what our oceans mean to you.  Coming from a province that is exploring off-shore drilling in a partnership with Shell...I truly am concerned for the well being of my home, lovingly referred to as Canada's Ocean Playground.

Grab your pens, your video cameras, your new lens, your paint brushes or your crayons.  Sings us a song, share a painting, an essay or simply an opinion.  As long as you can post it to a blog and share your link, you can wake up with us every Wednesday.  The only limitations are the ones found in your imagination. Mr. Linky will accept your posts up to 8am, Sunday May 20th...so you've LOTS of time to ponder and play.  Any and all are welcome.  We will be tallying the votes of the +1's on each entry, and the submission who has gained the most tallies will be designated our weekly award for creativity.  Don't have +1 on your site? No worries, you can still link up and share your most creative thoughts with us.  Here's how...
  • Post your response to the prompt on your blog.
  • Copy the address for the specific post and click on the Mr. Linky Button above.
  • Here you will be prompted to paste your link and enter your name.  The prompt is live for a total of four days.  If you post frequently, you want to be sure you have used your actual post address and not the general address of your blog. This way folks will be taken directly to your response, and won't bail on you for having to search your space to find it.
  • That's it! Your name will appear hyperlinked on our Mr. Linky page, along with our other entrants.  Remember, our purpose is to ultimately share the good works of our group.  Tweet and share till your heart's content on the pieces that have moved you. Visit those who have played along, commenting and engaging with your fellow creators.
  • Most of all, we hope you enjoy the prompt and the community!
