@SocialSprite 's Social Networking Tip of the Week

Social Sprite’s Social Media Tip of the Week

Twitter Connections

I know many of you use Twitter and have made great friends and fans there. I have, too. But lately I don’t feel like I’m connecting. It does take time, but I’ve come up with a plan to deepen my connections in about an hour or two a week and I’d like to share it with you.

ü  Figure out the three to five people you’d like to get to know or get to know better. These can be fans of your work who have reached out or a fellow creative whose work you admire.

ü  Create a private Twitter list of these people’s tweets so you can go to it and keep up with what they are sharing.

ü  Spend ten minutes a day reading through the posts via this list. Respond to the things they post, jump into a conversation they’re having if it’s appropriate or just say hello and ask about their day. Treat it like real life. Do what you’d normally do to build a relationship with someone.

ü  Once you feel you’ve become friends with these people (this means the relationship has moved beyond just Twitter) move them to another private list of your personal friends. Keep in touch with them still via this list by visiting it a couple of times of week for about twenty minutes. The time you spend depends on how many people are in your personal network.

ü  Add another person to the “getting to know” list so you always have three to five people in it and continue the process.

ü  Sometimes you may not connect. That’s ok. Let that person’s Twitter stream be one of the many in your main Twitter feed as before. Things may change later on.

Enjoy getting to know each better. Stronger connections mean a better world for all of us.

  1. Joanne, my adventure didn't really begin until I really started interacting with the twitterverse. I think it is an amazing vehicle that is underestimated by many. It's amazing the relationships that can be built in 140 character or less!

  2. Twitter is a great place to build relationships. I have some clients who are completely baffled by it though and lately I'm a little overwhelmed by the flow which led me to come up with this plan.

Thanks as always to you and Roger for letting me share here and for al you do!
